Forms are going up first of the week. Here are some snapshots of the future home:

Notice the home features the popular split floor plan. Also, the kitchen allows for plenty of cooking room with wrap-around countertops. There is a very comfortable size living room for the family to kick back in at night, a large front porch, and a deck coming off the rear of the home (currently shown as the back porch) for those summer barbecues.

Which Kitchen Is Right For You?

Different lifestyles present different demands for a home to meet. A retired couple with no children is not likely to need (or even want) the same amenities as a younger couple with a toddler and an infant, and vice versa. A businessman who works countless hours from home will likely view a home office as essential, while a personal trainer may feel the need for a home gym!

Today, we’re going to look at two of our most popular plans and discuss the kitchen layouts in each. The first is an older hand-drawn floor plan that has been favorite for space lovers for years, while the second offers a little more distinction between the kitchen and main living.

Lot 35

This home (currently being constructed in the Emerald Estates subdivision) is very popular for those who love “wide open” floor plans. With nearly 750 sq. ft. of kitchen and living area, it almost gives the feel of a studio apartment. Personally, I would recommend this floor plan to those who love to entertain and cook. Those in the kitchen are always in direct contact with the rest of the guests. There is plenty of room for cabinet space and, if more storage is needed, there is more than enough room to add a roll around island. It’s perfect for events such as superbowl parties!

Lot 36

This second floor plan (also currently being constructed in the Emerald Estates subdivision) offers a little more seclusion for those in the kitchen area. Countertops surround the homeowner and provide plenty of workspace. It is a good selection for those who enjoy cooking and use the kitchen to “wind down”. It is still fairly open, however, providing parents the comfort of being able to keep a watchful eye on their young children.

Design Options for One of Our Most Popular Floor Plans!

One popular floor plan Gustafson Properties has began building recently can be found at 3382 Mary Claire Lane in the Chateau Pointe subdivision in Southaven, MS. Among many of the popular features in this home is its flexible layout. To further improve this, we finished out the attic/mechanical room shown in the picture below, moving the mechanicals elsewhere and allowing for more living room!

By incorporating these changes into the plan, our customers will have the option of using the extra space for something more functional! What can be done with this extra space? One idea that comes to mind is a convenient home office. The small window in the room offers plenty of natural light and some custom trimwork could easily transform one of the walls into a decorative bookcase/desktop combo. Another option would be a child’s playroom/nursery area. For parents, this option should be especially appealing! Nurseries are often cluttered with diaper bags, changing tables, and gliders, and children’s rooms are notorious for being overrun with toys. Using this adjacent room, parents can keep their children’s bedroom far more organized!

What Do You Want in a Home?

What Do You Want in a Home?

What is essential to you in a floor plan?  Many modern floor plans are coming complete with great rooms, offices, and maybe even a small home gym.  These are very favorable options, but traditional floor plans are also still a popular choice.  While they may not have the added features of a modern layout, they bring some advantages of their own.

Traditional plans tend to be built more proportionately with a focus on the living area.  Many people favor the “cozy” feeling this brings to the home.  These layouts appear more welcoming in the family of floor plans.  The simplicity of their design often means less construction costs.  Their simple rooflines are easy to attach to if an addition is needed in the future.  Though they lack complexity, they make up for it in practicality.

What is most important to you in a home?  Do you like the inviting feel of a traditional home or the versatility of a modern layout?  What is missing in the homes being built in this area today?  Comment on our Facebook page beneath this blog!  Also, visit for more information on building a custom home!
