Getting Started!
Sometimes the hardest part of building a new home is knowing where to start! There’s so many decisions to make and so much information to sort through. How are you supposed to know what comes first? Gustafson Properties tries to make homebuilding as simple as possible for our customers! We guide you through each phase of the process and try to make the experience as stress free as possible! If you’re looking to build a custom home, here are a few tips on where to start:
- Find a lender that you are comfortable dealing with. Before you start looking to build, you will want to make sure you prequalify.
- Select a floor plan. Carefully review several plans and try to decide which one best suits you and your lifestyle. Consider bedroom locations, kitchen layouts, etc. If you find a set of plans that you are happy with but wish to alter slightly, make notes of those alterations so that we can give you the most accurate pricing possible when providing an estimate.
- Select a lot. The location of your home is as important as the home itself. Consider property values in the area, school districts, etc.
- Obtain as much information on the lot as possible (especially if it’s in the county). Is it in a flood zone? Does it pass the soil perk test? Allow your builder to examine the lot before any purchase is made.
- Once you are content with a set of plans and a lot, make the purchase! We can guide you through this process as well!
- At this point, we are ready to begin the initial steps of construction. We will set up an appointment, discuss any final questions or concerns, and sign all necessary paperwork!
