A/C Maintenance

The heat of the summer is upon us! So with the rising temperatures, it’s very important to properly maintain your air conditioning unit. Here are some pointers to keep in mind that will help get you through the summer without suffering the catastrophe of losing cool air.

First and foremost, as most know… change your filters routinely. During these hot summer months, it would be good to do so every 30-45 days. Leaving a dirty filter in your system can result in clogged coils and worse airflow. This, in turn, can lead to further (and more expensive) complications down the road.

Be sure to check your evaporator and condenser coils. Over time, both tend to collect debris, which can affect their function. Be especially attentive to the coils in your outside unit. These can be subject to a lot of dirt and trash build up due to lawn maintenance and outdoor conditions. Also, check to ensure that your coil fins are not seriously twisted or bent on your outside unit. This too can reduce airflow and damage your system.

Also, check to ensure condensate drains and pans are clear of any dirt and debris. Hot summer months tend to cause excessive condensation, which can cause damage to ceilings and walls in the event it spills over. If you have hard duct in your house, remember to check that it is properly insulated and taped.

Following these tips will hopefully keep you cool and comfortable throughout the hottest part of the year.
