Times Are A-Changin’

A couple of years ago, I took my family on a weekend getaway to Nashville, TN. My wife has some family there and with Nashville being a pretty cool place to hang out at, we decided to strike out on the old Music Highway.

Of course with three kids in the back seat, a typical three and half hour drive tends to turn into four and half to five hours (How everyone has to magically and immediately pee at the same time I’ve still yet to discover). Anyways, after pulling over for breakfast and lunch and taking enough rest stops to get the average person from Memphis to Colorado, we rolled into the city.

Shortly after arrival, we were booked into the hotel and heading to the room. The kids carried on with their fascination over the key cards and when we entered the two-bed suite, you would have though we just stepped into the Ritz-Carlton.  We had a quick pep talk about how we couldn’t act like complete animals because people were on both sides of the wall, then we prepared to unload the suitcases.

That’s when I heard my son throw out a question I’ll never forget.  “Dad, what’s this?”

“What’s what,” I asked, a little preoccupied.

“What’s this?”

I looked over.  To my surprise he was standing between the two beds staring down at the outdated phone on the nightstand.

“That’s a phone,”I responded.  “A landline. Most people just use cellphones today, but those used to be in everyone’s house.”

Wow.  It wasn’t until that moment that I realized my son really hadn’t had any real exposure to landlines.  All he’s ever known is cell service and internet technology.  And even in those industries things are changing at a rate not seen since the industrial revolution!

The home building industry isn’t exempt from such change.  The past couple of decades have brought massive adjustments in way of materials, banking regulations, pricing, and expectations.

This can make building a new home a little intimidating.  Not knowing where to start or what’s available overwhelms a lot of people.  Get informed on what the newest trends and technologies are.  See what products can be integrated into your custom build to improve your home’s energy efficiency, security, and convenience.  You may be surprise at what’s available on the market!

We can help!  If you’re ready to build your custom home, contact us and we will be more than happy to discuss your homebuilding plans and help guide you through the process! Some things never go out of style but really, would you want to be stuck using the old landline if an iPhone is available?
